Areas to Explore
Did you arrive early and have some time to spare? Edmonton has a bunch of cool neighbourhoods to explore, and here are a few that are relatively close to the event venue.
Whyte Avenue — The Sugar Swing Ballroom is located just 2 blocks off Whyte Ave, which is Edmonton’s more Bohemian district. The avenue has a ton of pubs, nightclubs, and cafes, but is also fantastic for shopping. Off the Avenue you can enter the time warp that is the Antique Mall, or if it’s Saturday you can visit the farmer’s market. Just a few of the shops locals love include Bamboo Ballroom, C’est Sera, Junque Cellar, and Gravity Pope.

Art Gallery of Alberta | Royal Alberta Museum — These two attractions are nestled in the heart of Downtown. The Art Gallery of Alberta features several exhibitions from around the world. The brand new Museum has permanent local cultural and natural history exhibits and currently features exhibits on Black Pioneers and Vikings.

104th Street Promenade | Warehouse District — A sophisticated street in the downtown core that is lined with historical buildings. This street is most known for its cafes and trendy wine bars, but there are lots of boutiques along the way as well. Check out Credo Coffee, Mercer Tavern, Rostizados, The Neon Sign Museum

124th Street — Just west of downtown is another cool street to explore. This area has a high concentration of art galleries and quirky shops. When you start up the street at Jasper Avenue, you’ll find the trendy boutiques; as you go north, the shops get more and more eclectic. Places of note include Nightshade Corsets, Duchess Bakery, Redemption Boutique and Salgado Fenwick. Go a little bit east of 124 Street on 102 Ave to find a collection of more fun stores.

La Cité Francophone | Francophone Quarter — Edmonton’s French Quarter is a lovely, quiet getaway from the bustle of Whyte Ave. La Cité is a community centre located in the neighbourhood, home to Cafe Bicyclette. Other places of note include Bul Go Gi house for Korean food and Duggan’s Boundary Irish Pub
